Wednesday Update: The Arizona Republic reports, The flames rolled down the western wall of scenic Oak Creek Canyon, reaching Arizona 89A as evacuation sirens sounded and firefighters pulled out all crews except those still trying to save homes. Fire officials said they expected the Brins Fire to reach the highway and had planned to use the road as the eastern containment line that would stop the fire's run.Tuesday Evening update: The fire is getting close to U.S. Highway 89A
Sedona, known for art, red rock country, and spiritual vortexes, is in danger from the wildfires crackling and burning close to Oak Creek Canyon. Sedona is situated at the mouth of Oak Creek Canyon, where the Mogollon Rim breaks up into numerous and colorful sandstone mesas that stretch out for several miles east and west of the creek. According to the Arizona Republic, The fast-moving Brins Fire breached scenic Oak Creek Canyon on Monday as firefighters worked feverishly to prevent it from gaining a foothold in the untamed wilderness where it could burn uncontrollably, destroy homes and spread north toward Flagstaff. If you are traveling to this area, it is wise to call your hotel or resort and check on any impact the fires may be having in the area.
