Lifegiving Rain in the Desert Can Also Be Dangerous

Monday August 14, 2006
A storm just moved through giving life to the parched desert. This is the time when the Ocotillo cactus will leaf out, Saguaros will swell from the water, and motorists will have to watch themselves in low areas. We are cautioned that, during Monsoon season, we should not attempt to drive across the low places in the road if there is water flowing. It is also a time when the waterfall at White Tank Mountain Regional Park flows. It's quite an attraction in itself! Photo: Doves bathing in the desert rain. Elizabeth R. Mitchell.
