Sonora, the Mexican State to the South of Arizona, is Going All Out for Tourists

Sunday September 24, 2006
Last year it was the permit-free zone and the TV ads stating, "Sonora Get's It." Now its a super-fast paved road from one beach town to the next and a dream of rural and colonial areas attracting ecotourism. A recent article in the Arizona Republic highlighted this move away from the Spring Break and beach crowd. "It's (State of Sonora) participating with Arizona in National Geographic's geotourism map project. Next year, the publisher will release a map that highlights the hidden cultural treasures of the Sonora Desert Region, all nominated by locals."

There is a downside to visiting border towns in Mexico. Our article, Crossing the Border into Mexico, Should You Go? gives you tips on how to know where you can be safe and how to watch out for yourself once you are south of the border. You can enjoy Mexico, you just need to be well-informed. Feliz Viaje!
