Fine Dining and Stargazing - Evening at Rancho de los Caballeros
Friday March 9, 2007
It was my first evening at Wickenburg's Rancho de los Caballeros. A thrill was the 4:15 pm run of the horses from the riding corral to their pasture. The ranch has over 100 horses and it is a magnificent sight to see the heard heading to pasture after a long day. Our evening began in the Saloon overlooking the property. It was a great place to watch the sunset pinks overtake the blue sky. Dinner at Los Caballeros is an experience in itself. With an executive chef from England, a chef, Lupe, who selects and prepares fresh Sonoran specials each night and knowledgeable servers, the meal was sure to be a hit. And, indeed, it was. The three course meal provided diners with fresh food, choices of vegetarian, fish and meat for entrees, accompanied by fine wine. Rancho de los Caballeros meals are on the American Plan and so they are included with the room rate. Space permitting, locals can make a reservation to dine in the ranch's dining room. Our evening was topped off by a stroll to the room under the clear starlit sky. What's on tap for today? Riding and, later, observing some guests and staff in a team penning competition.
