Head to the Heard for Festivals, Shopping, Lunch and.... oh yes, Education!
Sunday November 11, 2007
Museums used to be stuffy places where you had to be very, very quiet, and read the tiny print on exhibits in order to understand the displays. But, what I've seen lately coming from the Heard Museum in Phoenix, is very vibrant, alive and exciting.Today, I enjoyed the Heard Museum Spanish Market. Imagine... bottle cap art, Day of the Dead sculptures, amazing "Santos," and, best of all, a wonderful Southwest style meal at the Heard Museum Arcadia Farms restaurant. We heard mariachi's and fantastic Hispanic music. The place was hopping!
And the Spanish Market is just a hint of the exciting things happening at the Heard. Next March, an even bigger festival will take place on the museum grounds... the Heard Museum Indian Market. You can meet and talk to some of the best Native American artists in the U.S. You'll be treated to colorful Indian dances and enjoy fantastic art ranging from jewelry to sculptures. And, if the artisans are at the Heard, you know their work is authentic and high quality.
And in between, enjoy the interesting exhibits at the Heard and shop their well-stocked high quality gift shop.
