Tony Hillerman, Southwest Mystery Writer Dies in Albuquerque
Monday October 27, 2008
Many of us first fell in love with the Southwest and learned of Navajo culture through reading Tony Hillerman mysteries. Recently when I was at La Fonda, the small shop in the lobby was overflowing with Hillerman paperbacks as was the lobby at the Lodge in Canyon de Chelly. Tony Hillerman, author of the acclaimed Navajo Tribal Police mystery novels and creator of two of the unlikeliest of literary heroes - Navajo police Officers Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee - died Sunday of pulmonary failure in Albuquerque. He was 83. He and his writing will be missed. NY Times Obituary

I love Tony Hillerman’s novels. He will definitely be missed.
America has lost a fine writer. I felt I knew his characters Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee. Now it is as though I’ve lost 3 friends. Can anyone pick up the story line?
We are sorry to learn about Tony’s passing. My son, Michael & I are great fans. We have all of his books. His family & his friends will miss him terribly.especially the children back at his ol’ school, St. Bonaventure.
All of us have been blessed by Tony’s lifetime of gifts to us.
Thank you all, John & Barbara Sullivan
