Albuquerque's Top Events and Destinations

Albuquerque, New Mexico has some great attractions for every season of the year. Albuquerque was named the one of the nation's best deals for visitors. An easily accessible Southwest city with a centrally located airport, Albuquerque makes for a great vacation destination.

1. Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta

The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is a "must do." Fall in New Mexico is a time of cooler temperatures and brilliant colors. The Aspen forests in the north paint the mountainsides. Albuquerque hosts wine and arts and crafts festivals. But what most visitors look forward to in fall is the colorful International Balloon Festival.

2. Route 66 History in Downtown Albuquerque

Route 66 - Downtown Albuquerque has evolved from the Route 66 era to a developing place for nightlife and dining. Several music venues, clubs and restaurants have opened along Central Avenue. In the day time it is fun to reminisce about the Route 66 days, look for landmarks and check out the shops. Come walk with us down Central Avenue as we explore a little Route 66 history.

3. Albuquerque Old Town

Take a walk through history around Albuquerque's Old Town, the serene village that has been the focal point of community life since 1706. Quiet hidden patios, winding brick paths, gardens and balconies are waiting to be discovered.

5. Acoma Sky City Cultural Center and Haak'u Museum

After a fire destroyed the original museum in 2000, a brand new Sky City Cultural Center and Haak’u Museum opened in 2006. The museum provides visitors a chance to learn about the rich cultural traditions of the Acoma people and their resiliency to survive with their beliefs and values intact. Showcased in the museum are permanent exhibits of the renowned Acoma pottery and never before displayed textiles. Visit the ancient sky city on a tour and stop to purchase beautiful Acoma pottery made on this windswept and beautiful mesa.

6. Indian Pueblo Cultural Center

7. Sandia Peak Tramway

A trip on the world’s longest aerial tramway transports you above deep canyons and breathtaking terrain a distance of 2.7 miles. See some of nature’s more dramatic beauty unfold before you. At sunset the desert skies produce a spectacular array of color, and your vantage point from the observation deck atop 10,378 foot Sandia Peak in the Cibola National Forest affords an 11,000 square-mile panoramic view of the Rio Grande Valley and the Land of Enchantment. Located on the eastern edge of Albuquerque in the Sandia Foothills at the end of Tramway Road.

8. Albuquerque International Balloon Musuem

Located at Balloon Park, the museum is dedicated to the art, culture, history, science and sport of lighter-than-air craft.

9. Turquoise Museum

Find out about Turquoise mines, the different types of turquoise and the importance that turquoise has played in the Southwest cultures over the years.

10. Albuquerque's Bio-Park

The Albuquerque Biological Park consists of the Albuquerque Aquarium, Rio Grande Botanic Garden, Rio Grande Zoo and Tingley Beach.
