History:

In 1907, the days of Wyatt Earp and Geronimo, Arizona had yet to become a state. The Gadsden Hotel first first opened her doors. Named for the famous Gadsden Purchase, the hotel became home-away-from-home for cattlemen, ranchers, miners, and businessmen in the newly settling territory.

The Hotel was leveled by fire and rebuilt in 1929. The Gadsden is recognized as a National Historic Site.
The Ghost of Pancho Villa:

According to a story published by AllStays.com, the ghost has been reported mostly in the basement and is said to be a tall man in black clothing and often with no head. Some believe this ghost is the ghost of Pancho Villa. More from AllStays.com ...

Why You Should Stay at the Gadsden:

It isn't about the opulence of the hotel as that was yesteryear. It's about the wonderful things to see both in the hotel and in the area. So much history was made within the walls of this stately five-story, 160 room structure. Besides the colorful and legendary past, the architecture of the hotel is reminiscent of the hotels past glory.

The spacious main lobby is majestically set with a solid white Italian marble staircase and four soaring marble columns. An authentic Tiffany stained glass mural extends forty-two feet across one wall of the massive mezzanine. An impressive oil painting by Audrey Jean Nichols is just below the Tiffany window. Vaulted stained glass skylights run the full length of the lobby. Great photos of the Gadsden architectural details can be seen among the photo galleries on the Cochise County - DesertAura.com website.

I would say that a stay at the Gadsden is a stay in an old wild west museum. It is fun to explore. And, besides, you might just encounter a ghost!
