Where's Carefree?:
Just off I-17, take the Carefree Highway exit and travel east to Cave Creek and continue on to Carefree. Carefree Highway? Yes, indeed. And as you travel through the cactus studded hills lined with New Mexico-style homes, you will begin to feel truly "care free." Another option is to drive from Scottsdale north on Scottsdale Road or Pima to the Carefree area.Map
Shopping:
Carefree is a great place for specialty shopping. You will find galleries, designers showrooms, fine Indian jewelry and so much more along the attractive village sidewalks.
Dining:
Dining is as eclectic as is Carefree. Little Carefree has over 15 restaurants. You can have high tea at an Olde English tea room, enjoy fresh bread from the local bakery or dine with a view of the mountains at the Carefree Resorts and Villas dining room. More Information.
Galleries:
We especially enjoyed visiting the galleries of Carefree and found some artists at work in the galleries and very willing to speak with visitors about their work.
Carefree Fine Art and Wine Festival:
More than 150 jury selected artists from throughout the United States and abroad display more than 5,000 original pieces of art. You (and about 70,000 of your friends) will find small to life-sized bronzes, paintings, pottery, photography, scratchboard, wood, clay, metal sculptures, glass sculptures and more. More information.
Carefree Sundial:
Billed as the biggests sundial in the U.S. the massive structure can be found in the middle of Carefree's shopping district in a lovely desert park. Solar engineer John Yellot and architect Joe Wong designed the sundial for K.T. Palmer in 1959. It stretches 62 feet and points to the North Star. Solar local time is 27.7 minutes behind Mountain Standard Time and the hour markers are adjusted to compensate. The town of Carefree added copper cladding in 1990
Gardens of Carefree at Carefree Town Center:
The lovely Carefree shopping area is anchored by a town park called the Gardens of Carefree. The desert plants are identified so you can learn about the area's plants. Events are held in this lovely park. Picnic tables are available. More information.
Where to Stay:
We enjoyed the Carefree Resort and Villas. Carefree Resort and Villas is a well-established desert resort easily accessible from Phoenix or Scottsdale. With easy access to the quaint towns of Carefree and Cave Creek, there is much to experience both on site and off-site. More Information.
