About Moenkopi Legacy Inn and Suites:

The new hotel (opened Spring 2010) was conceptualized by the elders of the Upper Village of Moenkopi. It was a major undertaking designed as a welcoming portal to the land of the Hopi as well as a source for employment. The only other hotel on Hopi land is the small one at the Hopi Cultural Center on Second Mesa.

The Inn is beautiful example of what can happen when talented people combine culture, art and history with all the modern conveniences of an urban hotel. The Inn has a state of the art conference center, lobby with tall ceilings and a three story stone fireplace, saltwater pool and comfortable modern rooms.

The hotel has 100 rooms, including 16 suites. They are decorated in rich golds, browns and red earth colors mirroring the beauty of the surrounding desert. Rooms have large flat screen TV's, work stations and tiled bathrooms. Some rooms have balconies. Historical black and white photos of Hopi life dot the hallways and are featured in each room. Rooms are air conditioned.

Area Attractions:

The Inn is central to many Arizona attractions. In less than two hours, you can drive to Monument Valley, to the Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, Flagstaff,, the Hubbell Trading Post and, of course, to the Hopi Mesas.

The Tuuvi Travel Plaza across the street offers fare such as hamburgers and hot dogs as well as local specialties such as mutton stew and fry bread. Throughout Tuba City you will find the typical chain eateries such as Subway and McDonalds.

Relax in this Unique Native American Inn:

Tuba City used to bring up visions of fast food and chain motels, some not all that clean or comfortable.

Things have changed with the advent of the Moenkopi Legacy Inn and Suites. The inn's architecture, while beautiful and modern, takes its feeling and decorative elements from the Hopi people who envisioned a beautiful, peaceful portal to their land.

The inn is decorated with Hopi art, hopi symbols have been woven into the carpeting, and in the conference rooms you will see banners depicting Katsina carvings by an acclaimed local carver. Over the reception desk you will see a beautiful round stained glass piece by Howard Pavinyama, Hopi artist. This, his first glass piece, depicts the Hopi tradition of prayers at dawn.

Yes, you will enjoy the art and the Hopi words and symbols, but what cannot easily be replicated anywhere else is the feeling of warmth and hospitality that guests will experience. The inn is an oasis of beauty and peace in the midst of a sometimes windy, busy and hectic highway intersection in Arizona's Indian Country.

I highly recommend the Moenkopi Legacy Inn and Suites. Stay awhile and experience all the Hopi Mesas have to offer.
