Find Opportunities for Boating, Fishing, Hiking, Camping and More at the Lakes

By Elizabeth R. Rose, About.com

The lakes of Arizona will convince you that Arizona is not all desert. Arizona's lakes are a draw for boating, fishing, hiking, camping and much more. They all have unique attractions. One lake is known for it's wild burro population while another provides paddle-wheel tours. Enjoy cooling off at the lakes of Arizona.

Lake Pleasant Regional Park covers a total of over 23,000 acres of desert. The park has a visitors' center that provides information regarding the history of the lake, the construction of the Waddell Dam and the surrounding areas. Frequent special events are hosted by the park. You may hear or see the wild burros when you are at Lake Pleasant.

2. Saguaro Lake - Phoenix

Saguaro Lake was formed as the Stewart Mountain Dam was built on the Salt River as part of the Salt River Project. The lake is part of the Tonto National Forest. The lake is surrounded by beautiful jagged rocks and forests of Saguaro.

3. Lake Powell - Page

Lake Powell looks like Monument Valley after a huge flood. The rock formations are fantastic, the hidden slot canyons can be explored by kayak and houseboats can still find secluded places to tie up for the night. The brand new Antelope Pointe Marina in Page is a great place to rent a power boat, ski boat, jet ski, or kayak. Their luxury houseboats are ideal for family reunions or getaway weekends.
