The View of the Sedona Red Rocks

From Elizabeth R. Rose, About.com

We enjoyed new Sedona views around every bend in the road.

Copyright: Elizabeth R. Mitchell
As we traveled down the dirt roads, the views of the Sedona Red Rocks and the canyon changed around every corner. The guide explained the geology of the area and why there were layers of different color rock and sandstone. The red colors are due to iron oxide staining of the sandstone and, on some formations you can see a lighter sandstone color. Having a well-trained guide along adds considerable meaning to the formations that you see on this trip.
