MTM Ranch - Cave Creek, Arizona:
About the Trail Rides:
Guided rides take you through some beautiful Saguaro forests with options to ride up rocky trails high above cave creek. The horses are very calm and sure-footed and Patty, Motley, the owner, and wranglers are very helpful and good natured. Ride sizes are usually small. Private rides are available.
Directions to the Stables:
Drive north of Phoenix, Arizona on I-17. Exit at Carefree Highway and head east to Cave Creek Road. Turn left (north) onto Cave Creek Road and continue approximately 2.6 miles to Spur Cross Road (it has a sign). Turn left on Spur Cross Road for one block and then right on Grapevine, then left again back onto Spur Cross. Continue 4 scenic miles to the end of the pavement. Look for the MTM Stables sighn on your right.
Riding at MTM Stables:
Riders must be 7 years of age and older. No riding experience is necessary, but it's important to follow the instructions of the guide and wranglers. You will be asked to sign a waiver. Trail rides are leisurely. Don't expect to be galloping along the trails. In general, riders should be 240 pounds or less. Inquire when you make a reservation.
The Best Part of the MTM Ranch Experience:
MTM, we are told, stands for "More Time Than Money." Patty and wranglers are friendly and are capable of non-stop tall tales, nature commentary, and good natured joking around. But what I liked best about MTM were the calm, sure-footed healthy horses. I enjoyed riding high into the hills above the saguaro and ocotillo forests and surveying the beauty of the Spur Cross area. I highly recommend a ride with MTM.
