You will be taking the Tangerine Road Exit off I-10 which is approximately 20 miles north of Tucson.

Getting to the Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain:

It is equally easy to fly in to Phoenix or Tucson. From the airport, you can rent a car, take a shuttle or request the resort's town car service. At the time of this writing, a town car would cost approximately $150 to transport you from the Tucson Airport and approximately $250 to transport you from the Phoenix Airport to the resort.

I recommend the town car service as the drivers are knowledgeable and friendly and the comfort of the drive will help you to transition to the relaxing luxury of the resort even before you arrive.

Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain - The Area:

As you turn off Tangerine Road and approach the area where the resort has been built you will notice lush desert landscaping with huge Saguaros, colorful wildflowers and, if you are arriving early in the day or at dusk, perhaps even some of the local wildlife.

You will drive up through the foothills and pass by some beautiful Dove Mountain planned subdivisions, all with architecture that blends into the desert setting. You'll pass The Gallery, a private golf club. As you enter the elegant gates to the Ritz-Carlton, the boulder-studded Tortolina Mountains loom ahead of you.

Accommodations:

253 Guest Rooms and Suites - The guest rooms are large and very comfortable.
44 Individual and Casita Suites - These are like having your own individual home. Some overlook Burro Canyon.

The rooms feature casually elegant simplicity with dark Mesquite wood, luxurious fabrics, beautiful tile and views of the stunning desert landscape. We enjoyed a patio while rooms on other floors had a balcony. In the Sonoran desert area of the Southwest, visitors can enjoy indoor/outdoor living most months of the year so a balcony or patio is essential. More on rooms, rates and packages.

The beautiful Ritz-Carlton Spa is designed to bring the healing aspects of nature indoors and promote relaxation in a serene environment. The spa has 14 indoor and outdoor treatment rooms (including suites for couples and small groups), a marvelous serenity spa pool, a clothing optional outdoor spa tub with fireplace and courtyard, and the ever-present views of the mountains.

Behind the spa you will find Native American ancestral petroglyphs on the rocks. The spa is open to the public and locals receive a discount.

Guests can use the spa pool without having a spa service for $20 per day. More about the spa.

Review and Recommendations:

Put aside any thoughts you may have about the Ritz-Carlton Dove Mountain being stuffy and formal. The Ritz retains an amazingly high level of service while allowing guests to relax in a casually elegant atmosphere. Prepare to have the best experience you can have at a desert resort.

As a desert girl, I appreciate how beautifully the Ritz utilizes natural and culturally symbolic designs in the decor and architecture. From a knowledgeable hiking guide pointing out desert flora and fauna to the local produce used by Chef de Cuisine, Joel Harrington, you'll appreciate your encounter with beauty of the Sonoran Desert.

During your stay, I highly recommend getting out and about. How about a horseback ride? To thoroughly immerse yourself in the culture and natural beauty of the area, a foray into the desert is essential. Horseback riding, offered through the White Stallion Ranch, is an excellent way to have a true Western experience while staying at the Ritz-Carlton.

Right on site you have access to well marked hiking trails. I enjoyed hiking up the canyon and was surprised by the number of blooming cacti and wildflowers. For a little challenge, you can hike through the boulders up on the mountain for a spectacular view. (Trail maps are available)

After your hike or horseback ride, relax with a spa treatment or just enjoy the quiet luxury of the spa pool. You'll be rested and rejuvenated for your evening.

You will want to have at least one meal at the CORE Kitchen and Wine Bar. You'll experience the excitement of world class cuisine innovatively fused with Southwest spirit and flavors. One evening we sat at the bar around the exhibition kitchen and watched the chefs. Chef Joel spotted us and came over to help us with our menu choices. It was a memorable evening.

Our stay at The Ritz-Carlton Dove Mountain was a wonderful experience. I highly recommend the resort for couples, girlfriends' getaways, men's golf weekends, families and wedding parties.
