If you are in Surprise, Arizona for Spring Training, or to visit friends, you have many choices when it comes to dining out. As you travel down the major thoroughfares such as Bell Road, you will see many of these choices. The restaurants may look just like the restaurants you have back home. If you love chain restaurants, you are in the right place. But if you yearn for something a bit different, we have some tips for you!Polish Food with a Polka Beat
The White Eagle Deli, located in a shopping center near 303 and Bell Road, is not just a deli. Enter the simple glass doors and you will find yourself in another world. We decided we were in the mood for European food on a Friday night and headed for The White Eagle. My friend was salivating at the thought of a Schnitzel and red cabbage.
It was only 5:30 and the place was packed. The live polka band provided the atmosphere and I felt the gemeutlichkeit of a small German Gasthaus. Friendly wait staff offered a selection of beers and house wines and we explored the menu. From the Polish Kings Feast to the simple Grandmas Meatloaf, we knew we had found a place worthy of more than a few visits.
We enjoyed the music as we dined on the ample Schnitzel (we shared it), red cabbage, mashed potatoes, cole slaw. It was an excellent pork schnitzel and I noticed that the restaurant also offered a chicken schnitzel. After about two hours, we passed by the desert case, decided to behave ourselves and head home.

Kokopelli Winery and Bistro
Located at Grand and Reems, in yet another little new shopping center, is the Kokopelli Winery and Bistro, a branch of the one in Chandler.
We went with a group for lunch and found the place to be very busy. Some ordered wine and appetizers. I was amazed at the gourmet version of macaroni and cheese. It took two women in our party to finish it after passing it around the table for a taste of the delightfully creamy concoction.
Some ordered salads and I selected Kokopellis salmon lunch entrée. It was excellent. I look forward to returning at dinner to sample their wines and try another entrée. I have heard that they host special events and have live music quite regularly in their spacious dining room.
As we left, we noticed the wine tasting room and gift shop. Kokopellis Bistro is a welcome addition to the Surprise, Arizona dining scene.
