At the turn of the century, Cripple Creek's main attraction was the lure of gold. Starting in the late 1890s, thousands of miners and their families flocked to the district in search of wealth and freedom. But today, visitors head to Cripple Greek to enjoy one of their gambling casinos, to take a ride on the railway to view abandoned mine sites and to tour the historic town.
I recommend doing a little of everything. We hiked up to the town's historic cemetery, photographed buildings and enjoyed the ride on the narrow guage railway.
