We haven't visited Leadville so the following is a review submitted by a traveler.
The Leadville Train ride was around 2 1/2 hours, including about a 20 min. stop for a short walk around, pictures on the locomotive and visit with the train conductor.
We rode the Leadville train and I would rate it on the "1-10" scale as follows:
Train (1950's model Diesel) with two enclosed cars with full windows on both sides, 2 open cars with full roofs and 1 fully open car (all with comfortable seats facing the sides). Rating: 8
Scenery was good but you did the same route going out and coming back, lots of times just a lot of trees with an occasional gap to see the beautiful surrounding area. The train went across the upper part of a decent size mountain so when you had an open view it was very nice, but most of the time the trees blocked your view. Rating: 6
They had a snack bar and several restrooms, pretty generic, ok: Rating: 6
The narration and history of the area and the two trains there was decent but not great, could have been a bit more comprehensive. In the open car it was hard to hear the narration, need speakers on both end not just the one end. Rating: 5
Overall value for your vacation money and time, Rating: 5 1/2
Ways to improve: Clear out a bit more of the trees so the views would be better and improve the narration with increased local area knowledge and maybe some folklore too. I like trees but when 70% - 75% of the time your view is of trees on both sides - it gets boring.
