From , former About.com Guide

Planning a trip to Colorado? Why not explore this beautiful state from the seat of a mountain bike? Here are some of the best places for biking in the Rocky Mountain State.

Valmont Bike Park

Since opening on June 11 in Boulder, Valmont Bike Park – the largest free urban bike park in the United States – has drawn a variety of riders eager to check out its 40 acres of off-road offering. Expected competition-grade cyclo-cross racing trails, pump tracks, dirt jumps, dual slalom tracks and slope-style trails. There’s also a family friendly area with a learning loop, kids’ play area and more.

Bike the Byways Program

Telluride Tourism Board

By promoting bicycling on Colorado’s 25 designated Scenic Byways routes, the Bike the Byways Program encourages residents and visitors to try out both paved and gravel routes. Routes range from a quick 19-mile ride near Sterling to a multiday tour in the San Juan Mountains.

Fort Collins Bike Library

This free allows students, residents and visitors to Fort Collins the opportunity to borrow a variety of bicycles (as well as bike trailers for kids and cargo) for as little as an hour or as long as five days. You can also check out the library’s self-guided tours that include everything from local breweries to historic areas.

Trestle Bike Park

This Winter Park bike park offers 37 miles of downhill trails and more than 200 features for everyone from beginners to experts. Designed by Gravity Logic, this trail system is great for beginners, particularly when paired with the Trestle 101 lesson program. Youth programs and camps tailored for women are also offered.

B-Cycle

Home of the first large-scale municipal bike sharing system in the United States, Denver B-Cycle offers bike stations throughout the downtown, Cherry Creek and university areas of Denver. The bikes, which are painted red, may be picked up and dropped off at any B-station. The program is also available in Boulder.
