Heard Museum Spanish Market

Bright Woven Fabrics Catch the Eye

Elizabeth R. Mitchell
As I turned the corner of one row of displays, I saw a booth which reminded me of my trip to Central America. Colors of the rainbow and beyond were displayed on table runners, vests and wallets, just like I saw in the little villages of Guatemala. I admired the woven work from a distance, just enjoying the colors that radiated from the booth. I was sure the prices were a step up from what I experienced in Guatemala.

When you go:

Check the website. The Spanish Market does not have the regularity of the Indian Market and Festival. One year the Heard may schedule it, and the next year they may not.

Parking: The Heard has the cooperation of local agencies and businesses. Free parking is well marked on adjacent blocks.

Buying Art: The Heard, I understand, receives a percentage of the sales from each artist. The prices may be higher than in the communities where the artists usually work, but you also have the pleasure of seeing juried art in one location, talking directly to the artists and choosing pieces that are of the highest quality.
