The Radisson Woodlands Hotel in Flagstaff, Arizona, located on historic Route 66, offers amenities and comfort that tourists staying in the motor courts of yesteryears Route 66 could not have imagined.

It's About Amenities

When traveling and writing about historic Route 66, you might think I would want to stay in a little historic motor court. But in-room, free wireless Internet piqued my interest in the Radisson Woodlands Hotel on Route 66. It sounded comfortable, had a pool and was close to everything and a reservation was made.

Rooms

The Radisson has three main types of rooms, Sleep Number® Bed Guest Rooms, Standard Rooms and Parlor Suites that have microwaves, small sinks, refrigerators and a sofa sleeper. I had one of the Sleep Number® Bed Guest Rooms and was drawn immediately to the look of the bed with fluffy clean white pillows and a crispy white duvet cover. It was only later that I discovered the controls for the Sleep Number® Bed. Not high on my list of preferred ammenities, it was, however, intriguing. Initially set at a hard 55, I experimented with the levels of softness and came up with a comfortable 45. Fortunately the king size bed had controls for both sides so there would be no arguing about the sleep numbers!

The room also had upgraded, deluxe linens, down pillows, and a premium down-filled comforter, in an ultra-soft duvet cover. This comfort and the in-room wireless Internet met my requirements for a deluxe room.

The Hotel

With seven meeting rooms, ranging in size from 475 sq. ft. Colorado River Room to our 3,900 sq. ft. Grand Ballroom, the Radisson hosts meetings. When I was there, I noticed an outdoor outfitter orienting tour participants in one room and a large luncheon in another. Out back, there was a white gazebo close to the pool. This could be lovely for a wedding ceremony right on site.

While the decor of the Radisson is a bit dated, it is clean and apparent that the hotel is upgrading rooms rather than allowing them to decline.

Dining

The hotel restaurant serves Continental Cuisine morning noon and night in the sunny atrium of the Woodlands Café and Lounge. Room service is available from 6:00am-10:00pm. There is a $2.00 charge and a hefty gratuity.

For a Far East experience, you can watch chefs demonstrate the fine art of Teppan style cooking while preparing a meal tableside. Enjoy the excitement of Japanese cuisine at the Sakura Restaurant and fresh Sushi Bar.

The Radisson staff touts that their restaurants are not typical restaurant-style restaurants. Since I ate in town, I didn't have the opportunity to find out for myself.

Recommendation

I found the Radisson Woodlands to be quiet, despite the groups registered at the hotel. It was comfortable and, in better weather, the outdoor pool would have been a real plus. It is close to central Flagstaff, although you would need a car. I would stay there again... now that I know my Sleep Number!
