Places to Find Chocolate in the Southwest

By Elizabeth R. Rose, About.com

Love chocolate? There are some unusual, beautiful and delicious chocolate-oriented places in the Southwest. We have found everything from a world-class chocoate fountain to a home grown chocolate factory you can visit.

1. Glendale Chocolate Affaire - A Chocolate Festival in the Park

The Glendale Chocolate Affaire, at Murphy Park, features 40 chocolate vendors selling everything sweet and gooey. There is also a wine and beer garden, music, food court and many non-chocolate vendors

2. Bellagio Chocolate Fountain - Las Vegas, Nevada's World Class Fountain

You never know what you will see when you follow a Las Vegas local down a back corridor at the Bellagio Hotel. We came upon a marvelous, scrumptious contraption at the Jean-Philippe Patisserie. What we saw was amazing… a glass-encased 27 foot high chocolate fountain with 2,100 pounds of melted flowing chocolate to tempt us.

3. Cerreta Candy Company - Glendale, Arizona

For more than 70 years, the Cerreta family has prepared their candy the old fashioned way, by hand. Only the finest chocolates, nuts and ingredients are used to produce candy made famous around the world. Located just seconds east of Historic Downtown Glendale's Murphy Park, the Cerreta family offers free factory tours where sampling is encouraged!

4. Ethel M Chocolates Factory Tour - Las Vegas, Nevada

The Ethel M® Chocolate Factory and Botanical Cactus Garden are open daily from 8:30 am to 7:00 pm. The Botanical Cactus Garden is only 15 minutes from the "Strip", on the way to Hoover Dam. In its 2.5 acres, you'll discover an arid landscape rich with over 350 species of cactus, succulents and desert plants from the Southwest and other deserts of the world. Tours are self-guided.

5. Señor Murphy's Chocolate - Santa Fe, New Mexico

Señor Murphy Candymaker has been handmaking the finest handmade chocolates, most unique Southwest pinon candies and chocolate candies for more than 30 years in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

6. Telluride Truffles - Colorado

Delicious, slightly wild and … a wicked sense of altitude. Truffles freshly handmade from Belgian chocolate, Colorado organic cream, fine liquors, natural flavors and absolutely no preservatives. The triangular shape echoes the mountains in which we love to ski, play or just gaze at. Available online.
