The Monte Vista has had a colorful history. In the 1930’s the 1931. The main speakeasy in town was The Monte Vista Lounge and for a couple of decades the Monte Vista offered slot machines. In the 1940’s and 1950’s, Western movies became the all the rage and more than one hundred movies were filmed in nearby Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon. During these filmings, the Hotel Monte Vista hosted such famous guests as Jane Russell, Gary Cooper, Spencer Tracy, John Wayne and Bing Crosby. The Monte Vista’s reputation doesn’t stop there. There are spirits haunting some of the rooms and the halls. With such a colorful history it is not surprising that the Hotel Monte Vista is known for it’s ghosts.

(unreviewed)In 1907, the days of Wyatt Earp and Geronimo, Arizona had yet to become a state. The Gadsden Hotel first first opened her doors. Named for the famous Gadsden Purchase, the hotel became home-away-from-home for cattlemen, ranchers, miners, and businessmen in the newly settling territory. The Hotel was leveled by fire and rebuilt in 1929. The Gadsden is recognized as a National Historic Site.
