September is an ideal time to visit the Southwest. From chile tasting in New Mexico to air races in Reno, find out about the most interesting places to visit and festivals to attend in the Southwestern United States in the month of September.

1. Moab Music Festival - Moab, Utah

Music from around the world amidst the spectacular red rock canyonlands of Moab Utah. Each year musicians and music lovers alike, from across the country and around the world, travel to the Moab Music Festival to perform and to listen to musical masterpieces, old and new, set among some of nature's most spectacular landscape masterpieces... the red rock canyonlands.

2. Reno Air Races and Air Show - Reno, Nevada

Fly low, go fast, turn left! The Reno National Championship Air Races is the only place in the World where you can see five days of real air racing by six classes of aircraft up close and personal. The Air Races have been run since 1964 near Reno, Nevada, USA, and are currently held at Reno Stead Field, about eight miles North of Reno.

3. New Mexico Chile Festivals

In New Mexico, September is the time that chile roasters pop up in grocery store parking lots, on corners, and seemingly, everywhere. September is also Wine and Chile Fiesta time in Santa Fe and Chile Festival time in Hatch, home of New Mexico chiles.

4. Travel by Train to Sunset at the Grand Canyon

6. Marfa Lights Festival - Marfa, Texas

The Marfa Lights Festival is an annual event celebrating the mysterious Marfa Lights. Activities over the Labor Day Weekend include food and crafts booths, a main street parade, contests, concerts and street dances. The festival has become a Marfa tradition and a reunion time for former residents and natives.

7. Navaho Nation Fair - Window Rock, Arizona

This year the Navaho Nation invites you to come celebrate at the Navajo Nation Fair in Window Rock, Az. Look for this event in early September. Bring the family, take a friend or go solo, it doesn't matter, there's plenty of things to do for everyone. With a rodeo, pow wow, concerts and more, the fair will keep you busy for sure.

8. Route 66 Days - Flagstaff, Arizona

Route 66 Days is a weekend of fun, arts and crafts, fast cars and entertainment galore. Take a trip down memory lane and celebrate the "Spirit of Route 66" in the cool pines of Arizona's High Country.

9. Oktoberfest on Larimer Square - Denver, Colorado

The festival has truly become a Denver mainstay offering German attractions, music from national touring groups, performances by international dancers, children’s activities, heritage booths selling German goods, splendid décor, an accordion concert, traditional Biergartens, and authentic cuisine.

10. Jazz on the Rocks - Sedona, Arizona

Enjoy jazz in the shadows of Sedona's beautiful Red Rocks. Expect incredible music, and the amazing atmosphere that is the Sedona Jazz on the Rocks Annual Benefit Festival.
