Lake Havasu City and the London Bridge Resort

Our destination was The London Bridge Resort which has the best location in Lake Havasu City. The resort sits on 110 waterfront acres. Imagine sitting on your balcony or patio and enjoying the constant parade of watercraft heading down the channel toward the lake. Within steps are refreshing pools, a hip new full-service restaurant and the infamous Kokomo Night Club.

The resort has a little bit of everything. There is a day spa, computer center, tennis court, golf course, pizza parlor, convenince and gift store and, of course, the imposing gilded replica of a Royal Coach in the lobby to greet you.

The London Bridge Resort is in the midst of all that’s happening in Lake Havasu. It can't be beat for convenience. They are continuously upgrading and the decor that may currently be dated is on the slate for renovation. I am not certain their eclectic decor will ever go, so you just have to expect the mix of ultra-chic (Martini Bay) with pseudo-tudor - and for fun, add a gilded coach replica to the mix. Mixing touches of Jolly Old England in a desert lake environment is unique to Lake Havasu City. It doesn't make sense, but, like the city, it's fun!

Martini Bay

While at the resort, we sampled the London Bridge Resort's newest restaurant, Martini Bay. Things really got going later in the evening when the DJ showed up to spin 60's and 70's tunes. The decor is very current and fun. The martini list was extensive and the tapas were a tasty compliment to the martinis. They have a full menu with entrees ranging from filet mignon to salmon. It's a great place for a drink and dancing, but be prepared for resort prices.

Fine Dining Along the Channel - Shugrue's

Martini Bay is a great place to have a drink, watch the sunset, and dance the night away. For relaxed fine dining, we recommend Shugrue's Restaurant and Bar, which is on the island side of the London Bridge. Shogrue's has big windows overlooking the channel and the London Bridge. The food is continental, prepared with care, and is worth the stretch on the budget for a special occassion or, for example, to celebrate your last night at Lake Havasu. We found the decor to be relaxing and the service attentive. I enjoyed a small prime rib and my friend had the steak in peppercorn sauce. Both entrees, and the salads that preceeded them, were excellent.

Mexican with a View - Javalina Cantina

For good Mexican Food, Javalina Cantina, also owned by Shugrue's, is right across the street. We enjoyed the view from the outside misted deck. Try the beef and bean burrito if you have a hearty appetite!

Micro-Brews with a View

We loved Barley Brothers and found the location, just across the London Bridge, a real plus. The food was hearty and the beer choices met the expectations of the beer connoisseurs in our group.
