Get Away From It All with a Hike in Red Rock Canyon

Red Rock Canyon is a mere 30 minutes from the frenetic activity on the Las Vegas Strip, but walking among these rocks and in the canyons you'd think you were 100 miles away. This canyon is a designated National Conservation Area, public land administered by the Bureau of Land Management. There's a 13-mile scenic drive loop, with stops to admire the massive red boulders popping up between gray mountains and the cactus-covered flats. You might even sight a wild burro during your hike or climb. Red Rock Canyon is a geological wonder, so take the time to hike along one of the many trails. When you're all alone near a quiet brook or cascading waterfall, it's difficult to believe the casinos and nightlife are a quick ride away.
