There is a pool and hot tub, rooftop bar, lounge with live music nightly and top of the line pillow-top mattresses and down pillows.History:
When Santa Fe was founded in 1607, official records show that an inn, or la fonda, was among the first businesses established. The current La Fonda was built in 1922 on the site of the previous inns. In 1925 it was acquired by the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad, which leased it to Fred Harvey.
From 1926 to 1968, La Fonda was one of the Harvey Houses, a renowned chain of fine hotels.
Dining:
La Fonda has a fine Mexican restaurant and a lounge. At the center of the hotel is La Plazuela, a beautiful enclosed courtyard restaurant featuring an award-winning culinary team and interesting, contemporary Nuevo Latino cuisine as well as New Mexican favorites. There is a roof-top bar where you can have a drink and enjoy the vistas of Santa Fe and the rolling hills of New Mexico. It's in the Details:
La Fonda is a family owned hotel with many employees who have been there as a life-long profession. Noteworthy among the La Fonda family is Ernest Martinez, the artist who has been responsible for the beautiful folk-art detailing in the rooms and hallways for over 50 years. Ernest also does the tin work detail in the hotel. As you walk through La Fonda, enjoy the artwork, the historical displays and the details at every turn.History Meets Modern Convenience on the Plaza:
For a true Santa Fe experience, nothing beats La Fonda. With individually decorated rooms and a vibrant lobby with cafe's, restaurant and lounge where all of Santa Fe meets, La Fonda exemplifies Santa Fe style. With a combination of Mexican, Spanish and Native American influence and decor La Fonda mirrors the culture of Santa Fe.Many don't realize that La Fonda's newest addition, La Terraza, offers a boutique hotel feel (with separate concierge and entry) while being connected to the historic La Fonda. La Terraza also is home to the beautiful ballroom and terrace. Weddings, anniversary parties and more take advantage of the spacious light-filled ballroom that opens onto an expansive terrace with views of the city. Details in the ballroom will amaze you... stained glass and tinwork skylights, tin and copperwork chandeliers and a kiva fireplace.
I highly recommend La Fonda for a Santa Fe getaway or to host your special event. There are small traditional rooms or larger rooms with french doors opening to balconies with a view of the city. If you come to Santa Fe just once, splurge on one of the rooms in the main hotel with a balcony or one of the La Terazza rooms with balconies.
If you aren't able to stay on Santa Fe's historic plaza, consider stopping by La Fonda for a meal or a drink. The hotel is filled with historic art and early Santa Fe ambiance. La Fonda is a most charming historic inn, Santa Fe's famous "Inn at the End of the Trail", with origins dating to 1610.
