What are Fiber Arts?

I didn't realize it but when I visited Toadlena Trading Post and Two Grey Hills Trading Post and saw the sheep, met weavers and purchased a small rug, I was on the Northwest Fiber Arts Trail. Fiber arts encompass those who grow the wool and other fibers, those who spin it and those who weave it. It also encompasses traditions such as embroidery and sash making.

The New Mexico Fiber Arts Trail is collaboration between New Mexico Arts and a grassroots network of fiber artists to cultivate awareness of the rich and unique fiber arts heritage. It highlights innovations and opportunities for artists to prosper in their home communities.

Age-Old Tradition of Fiber Art

Creativity in fiber art encompasses age-old traditions and cutting edge advances. It flourishes on the back roads of New Mexico where more than 200 artists in 71 destinations welcome visitors to their studios. The Fiber Arts Trail celebrates New Mexico’s diverse communities, lifestyles, and landscapes, all of which inspire, nurture, and supply fiber-related activities.
