The annual Bisbee Lodging Tour will give you a day to tour the inns, hotels and B&Bs of historic Bisbee, Arizona. Each place, in fact each room, has its own personality, décor and best use. From the 12 accommodations toured during the 2007 Doors Wide Open Bisbee Accommodation Tour, I have come up with my recommendations which might help you in your quest for a place to stay in Bisbee.Lizs Overall Favorite
While each place in Bisbee offers something special to the visitor, my someplace special turned out to be the Warren Suite at The Copper City Inn. With tall windows and ceilings, Mission style furniture, beautifully coordinated accent pieces and a relaxing veranda, I could not have envisioned a more homey and centrally located place to stay.
Add to that a sitting area and full kitchen, the privacy of keyless entry and all sorts of small touches left by the owner, and you have a great place to stay just steps from the restaurants and shops of Bisbees historic district. The Inn is fairly new yet retains a classic feel that meshes well with the more historic buildings of Bisbee. The color scheme is warm and current. The accent pieces add to the flow of the décor. I highly recommend The Copper City Inn. Review and Article.
Best Romantic Hotel
The Letson Loft Hotel is just filled with high-end treasures, put together perfectly to make this newly renovated hotel a true Bisbee gem. Climb the stairs to a beautiful romantic hotel with all the modern amenities such as wireless Internet, flat screen TVs, shower/tub baths in each room, cozy bathrobes and a relaxing sun porch. With room décor right out of the decorator magazines, and a central Bisbee location, you will be swept away into the romance of a bygone era. Step outside and head to a top restaurant for dinner such as Café Roka, or do a little antiquing. The Letson Loft Hotel is newly renovated, very comfortable and ideal for a romantic getaway or relaxing vacation. Hotel Website.
Best Accommodations for a Long Stay
Off the main street, up a short hill is a former YMCA building, now dubbed the Gym Club Suites. The Gym Club not only has some of the best views in Bisbee, it has rambling suites with full kitchens, sitting rooms and separate bedrooms. The suites give a couple or a family the space and privacy they need for a longer stay in Bisbee. Since the suites are not on the main street, its a bit quieter. Some of the suites have decks with fantastic views. The Gym Club Suites offers weekly and monthly rates. Suites Website
Best Place for Bird and Garden Lovers
The Silver King Hotel, a very old historic hotel, located in Bisbees Brewery Gulch, has retained the most original configuration of the hotels I visited. It has creaking plank wood floors and rooms do not have a private bath. But upstairs, out back, is a real treasure. The hotel has a lovely overgrown garden. I even saw a hummingbird nest in one of the trees. From the garden you enter a little apartment complete with sitting room and kitchen. It is at the back of the hotel and so looks like it might be a quiet retreat.. More on the Silver King Hotel.
Best Place for Antique Lovers
Just outside historic Bisbee, is the Warren District. High atop one of the hills is a colorful stucco historic home. In 1906 noted Southwest architect Henry C. Trost designed a home for the Joseph E. Curry family. This is now the Calumet and Arizona Guest House. Its lovely from the outside, has a great view and peaceful gardens. But step inside and you will be wowed by the Antique furniture and bric-a-brac. Every corner is filled and every shelf has something of interest. This would be a great place for the collector or antique lover.to stay. Guest House Website.
Best Place for a Family Vacation
Up Tombstone Canyon Road, not far at all from downtown historic Bisbee, is a fantastic 2nd story apartment in an older home. Climb the stairs from the street and have a look at Mayberrys Place. Mayberrys has renovated the top floor of this building with hardwood floors, colorful paint, soft leather couches, two bedrooms, a full kitchen and laundry room. They welcome families with children and are dog friendly. A little garden to the rear of the home adds a homey touch. You can enjoy all of this for a very reasonable price. Mayberrys Website
