Bisbee, Arizona Annual Lodging Tour: "Doors Wide Open"
See Bisbee's Historic Inns

By Elizabeth R. Rose, About.com

Mar 28 2008
Visit the Inns and B&B's of Bisbee

Twelve of Bisbee's finest accommodations on display in historic Bisbee, Arizona.

The doors to historic Bisbee's diverse visitor accommodations will be wide open for visitors on Saturday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8, 2008. The tour, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, will feature B&B's, hotels, inns, homes, and motels. Twelve establishments will participate in the tour, sponsored by the Bisbee Chamber of Commerce.

The varied buildings on the tour illustrate both the architectural heritage of Bisbee as well as how new buildings augment the character of the former copper mining town. B&B's and Inns nestled into the sides of canyon walls or dispersed along the canyon floor main streets will be on display. Homes for overnights stays, tucked into switchback streets with views of the Mule Mountains above historic buildings in the downtown Old Bisbee area, and the 'City Beautiful' designed Warren area are a treat for those accustomed to the blandness of contemporary towns.

This year the tour features the Calumet and Arizona Guest House, built in 1906 by noted Southwest architect Henry C. Trost. The six room Mission Revival B&B is located in the Warren section of Bisbee. A reservation-only early preview from 10 am-11am includes a continental breakfast. Contact 520 432-4815 for specific information.

"Our annual tour offers visitors a unique, fascinating, and educational view of our historic area, "says Chamber director Jeff Blankenbeckler. "Bisbee does not have the standardized sameness of many other towns. If you are interested in lodging and surroundings that are authentic, diverse, and individualized, but with modern amenities, you'll find our tour rewarding."

A shuttle bus will run a scheduled route in Old Bisbee. Reservations for the event are $6 in advance and $8 day of the event. The shuttle bus will cost $1. Participants are urged to walk or use the shuttle, carry water and wear comfortable shoes.
